Graphic Design Introduction
Graphic design is a form of art; it is part of art and not the other way around. Painting and Sculpting have existed since the stone age till this very day. In spite of that, all areas of design have only been introduced to humanity in the 19th century.
Even though people have always worked in design, it is a relatively new concept. Anything that has to do with design is taken from the history of art. Visual communication applies to every area in which a visual message is delivered.
When an industrial designer designs a table, s/he delivers a certain message, his/her “manifest”, and the taste and personal preference of the viewer determine whether they’re going to like the design or not.
There is a difference between graphic design and advertising. Advertising sells, manipulates the consumers, it’s an aggressive world that delivers the message quickly. On the other hand, graphic design is all about aesthetics, beauty, letters.
The people in both areas are different too. Some of the graphic designers can’t lie because of their conscience; if a person can’t lie in the advertising world, that poses a problem.
Illustration, like graphic design and advertising, relates to visual communication. There are different areas in illustration – illustration for a functional product and illustration as clipart that can mostly be found on books and posters.
Package design is mostly related to industrial design, as it involves 3d. The jar, box, container etc. collaborate with the package. The package designer works together with the industrial designer, who knows more about the materials necessary for the project.
Designing of stamps is another area which also includes stamps, medals, coins and bills. There are poster designers/artists, as well as graphic designers, who collaborate with photographers (design-photography relations).
In typography (derives from the words Type and Graph – the art of type), Hebrew fonts are considered inferior and less advanced through time, compared to the Latin fonts. The modern fonts are new, whereas the Hebrew fonts are mostly based on the bible letters.
